Sustainability
Environmental responsibility is an important factor in our supply chain strategies. We are committed to reducing our environmental footprint and incorporating green initiatives to help reduce energy usage and pollution in both new and existing facilities.
Already, we have decreased electricity, water and fuel consumption across all of our facilities nationwide, and we recycle thousands of pounds of materials each year.
When building new facilities, we carefully consider the environmental impact during the development process as well as once the facility is operational. For example, our 304,000 square-foot distribution center in Charlotte, N.C., earned LEED certification. It incorporates a number of sustainable strategies to minimize energy and water use and contribute to a healthier environment.
Our transportation division is a SmartWay Transportation Partner and has incorporated a number of programs designed to minimize the fleet’s environmental footprint, including adding trailer skirts to make tractors more aerodynamic, using low resistance tires, and utilizing PeopleNet software for optimal vehicle performance.
We’re especially proud of our new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fleet which will help to reduce our carbon footprint while making deliveries in the Florida peninsula and southern Georgia.
Moving forward, we will continue to explore a variety of green initiatives and implement them whenever appropriate as part of our corporate commitment to sustainability.
